I

Shankar and Vikram have teamed up together after a gap of many years and one would expect fireworks. But it turns out to be a disappointment - Keep your expectations low... Let's remember that Writer Sujatha is nomore and Shankar couldn't compensate for that loss and it's very evident when the story struggles to enthral the audiences.

ARRehman and Vikram deserve a lot of credit for their contribution and they are the sure winners of this 3 year project. Shankar - to get back to his winning ways, needs to find better scripts, one which he has never struggled in the last 2 decades. Nevertheless - a good watch and can give you a sense of a weekend movie that you watch with your loved ones.

என் பொம்முக்குட்டி அம்மாவுக்கு

Fazil has raised to the name and fame of a class story teller and director in this movie with his choice of the script. The entire plot revolves around a 5 year old kid and the stakeholders and in particular the Vinoo - Lakshmi couple. Fazil takes the viewers to the world of Bommukutti Amma to add a feel good factor to the movie.

Plus Points:
1) Fazil and his script: In one of his first films, he has scripted a complicated story to take all the credit to the success of the movie.

2) Geetu and the star cast: Playing the title role, little Geetu provides a classic performance to steal the limelight. The rest of the star cast provide a powerful performance to duly contribute to the success of the movie.

தில்லுமுல்லு

Balachander has directed Rajni in this remake film which has gone onto become an evergreen comedy in Tamil film industry. The movie is full of wits and clean comedy and due credit goes to the original script writers of Golmaal and Visu.

Plus Points:

1) Rajnikant and Thengai Seenivaan: In this well scripted movie, Thengai Seenivasan and Rajnikant steal the thunder throughout the film with their faultless acting. Rajni has come up with a good performance as both Indran and Chandran.

2) Lively and Clean script: For full time comedy lovers, the movie is a real treat and is a favorite among the families across the ages. Kudos to the scriptwriters!

அன்பே சிவம்

The meeting and the subsequent interactions between a capitalist and a communist on their journey bring them together to a cordial relationship, at the end in this light hearted comedy. The plot takes twists at the right times and the director has been careful to feed the elements rightfully and play within the limitations of the script.

Plus Points:

1) Kamal and the cast of characters: Kamal, as ever, is the pick of the lot with his storytelling abilities and as a handicapped middle aged communist. Nalla has been ably supported by the youthful, selfish, smart capitalist in Ars.

2) Light hearted storyline: The storyline has been brilliantly filmed to merit a due applause, with its flow in a cool manner.

கேளடி கண்மணி

The movie portrays a few individuals who are accomodative to keep the values intact and get on with their lives. The father - daughter relationship takes the front seat as the movie tries to dispel itself away from the initial glamorous start.

Plus Points:

SPB and the little Neena steal the limelight with impressive performances. Vasanth, in his directorial venture, was identified as a great prospect to the Tamil cinema with this film.

Minus Points:

The last half hour hinges on a loose script unfortunatley. At times, one would feel that there is a big X factor missing in the movie though it is compensated by the Arokiyaraj character to an extent - played by Janakraj.

Nevertheless, this is a film worth watching as it thrives more on the family values than the glamorous love portion.

Gladiator

A fiction based on some true characters and events, has indeed created a lasting impression with an energetic performance and storyline. Set in the Marcus Aurelius era, the movie captures the basic ingredients of the Roman empire - valor, loyalty, treachery, honor and faith in a commendable style.

Plus Points:

Russel Crowe who carries the movie all through with his solid performance sets the tone for the movie. The settings, music, the storyline all add to an entertaining gripping plot that carries the movie watcher into the Roman era. Everything is set to relive the glory and the faultless storyline make the film watch it more than once.

The Hours

The Pulitzer winner made into a movie has a unique way of storytelling. The three distinct lives interconnected by a subtle thread has been shot brilliantly by the director. The impressive performances by the three female leads move the film amidst the tragic events of the plot.

Plus Points:

1) Mrs.Dollaway and the characters:
The extremely behaving Mrs.Dollaway and the cast of the characters set the tone for the movie across the ages.

2) Storyline:
The storyline has been impressive and the hopping between the state of mind of the three ladies across the geographies and the time zones keep the audiences engrossed and the writer takes credit for scripting a plot which maintains its identity amidst the traditional monotonous jazzy films.

Minus Points:

1) The slowness of the movie and the adult contents of the story may not enthuse an active movie watcher.

The movie with an outlook of a 'serious' film, is worth watching for its ability to keep the audiences glued and guessing till the climactic end of its own. The true original script definitely deserves an ovation!
